That's sad. I had a lot of friends that lived in Park Forest right there. It used to be such a nice little middle class neighborhood.

Yep. Park Forrest and Monticello was a really great place in the 80’s and early 90’s.

I had several friends that lived around there until about the mid 90s.

Monticello used to have the best Christmas light displays back then. I took my daughter there about 10 years ago thinking there'd still be some and it was pathetic.

What would the home prices of that neighborhood be equivalent with today’s dollars? Like $300,000? Just seeing what was considered middle class as far as price goes for the early to mid 80’s.

I mean... if you want to be an insular angry white dude you might as well just move to Iowa. You get the added perk of having Steve King represent you in Congress.

I grew up in Monticello. Christmas time there was unbelievable as a kid. My family moved in 94.

Probably more like $200k. A lot of those were 1600 sq ft ranch homes. The neighborhoods just weren't dangerous.

I was thinking the same. What would middle class neighborhood homes cost these days in your opinion? Like $250,000 - $350,000?

A good friend of mine Mike and his brother Brian lived on Catalina Ave in high school. Spent tons of time in that neighborhood.

A new home would be in that range I guess. You can buy an older home in an area that isn't bad, but not extremely desirable now for less.

I think you can buy a house in Shenandoah for around 200k in some cases. It's not what it once was though but you aren't right in the middle of a bad area either.

Mike would be 45 or so now, Brian around 41.
