I like your comments on our local politics. One of these days we need to put together a TD gathering at one of the local watering holes

Yeah, I've been a bit of a shite stirrer on social media with local politics and I've had friends, including people I went to high school with get a kick out of my antics. Ken Benitez has already blocked me from commenting on AN17's facebook page. I mean did we really need a JBE picture every five minutes after he won the election? Mark Kowle, the former super of Tangi Schools had some goons threaten my ex wife who was a teacher when I pointed out on Facebook that Livingston only spends 8 bucks more tax dollars per student when he was doing something that was borderline illegal: trying to convince public employees to vote for a tax increase while serving as a public employee. Yeah, that's gonna go down real well in the media telling a veteran he can't exercise his first amendment right.

Thing is, my family still knows a lot of the people who run this parish. It's funny when someone tells me (like an ex-girlfriend's mother once) that they know people here. Yeah, no shite, so do I.

If any of you go tomorrow, go check out Blood River Church's Crawfish Cheese Sauce. It's the best cheese topping I have ever had.

How ridiculously crowded was it?

Did you happen to walk by the baseball field/community center? There were Rv’s and campers set up for the weekend. And they weren’t carnies either. Just people spending their weekend camping out and partying for scrawberry fest.

I parked by there earlier today and yeah, to be honest I think it's a smart move. Hell if I had a camper I'd be doing the same thing.

Wasn't the sheriff's office by far his biggest customer in his subsequent business? Is he related to the Edwards or just one of the machine players?

what's the backstory on this?

Robbie Miller was an IT consultant of some rinky-dink company in the area that allegedly sold bunk Microsoft software licenses to local businesses including Tangi government. I've worked in IT for years and never heard of the guy till he ran for parish president so that says a lot of the size of his business.

In fact, a teacher who my ex worked with and she and her husband also went to the same church with us tried to convince us to vote for him. Why? They went to the same crossfit box as they did. Honestly I felt Notriano would be a better fit but somehow Miller got elected. As an IT consultant myself who also doesn't like selling customers pirated software, I wasn't a fan of Miller.

Wife and I have lived here for over 10+ years and went for our first time yesterday.

We were worried about getting caught in a storm on the drive back, but we got our fill of food and sights.

A ton of food choices. More so than other festivals I’ve been to. But the quality was varied due to so many different organizations and group cooking. I mean, there must have been at least 15 different Greek organizations doing their own thing. I would prefer more limited options like they do at Jazz Fest but the quality is higher and more consistent.

Turkey leg and water was $15. My wife and I were flabbergasted.

Very interesting people watching. A lot of different types. Overall, we enjoyed it and will probably be back.

I think he owned his own IT company prior to being president. The sheriff's office was a client.

When the Microsoft deal went down he owned a company back in the nineties that did IT stuff but also assembled computers. MSFT accused him of selling pirated Windows on those computers. That business eventually shut down. I don't recall their ever being any criminal charges.

No one wants to be Parish President and that is understandable.

The Edwards seem to have sketchy folks around them on a regular basis. Miller is probably the least of these. He is just a guy looking for a slick way to get $$$. He wanted the casino in Robert on land basically surround by Edwards family land and the sight itself was once Edwards land and was in some kind of LLC I am told. He wants to develop the Port of Manchac for some reason that most everybody suspects will make some money for some machine supporters. (The Port is a boondoggle that should be eliminated and the land auctioned off. There is no reason for the Parish to pick some well connected developer over some other prospective land owner or developer but the machine folks are trying to do just.)
