That was not an everyday situation. The police officer could have easily ended up dead there. Dude was resisting to the end and at any point it looked like he could have gone for Mastriani's gun and reaching in his pocket was the second point Mastriani could have gotten killed. The baby being flung around while the officer was alone wrestling with him. Anyone who can stand by and watch that doesn't belong on this earth, period, I don't care what justification you want to throw out.
