The reason why is, the wife has already got the husband worked up, and when cops show up, the wife begins defending the husband and will attack the officer as he tries to cuff the husband.

Also add in liquor usually involved,etc

Father almost had his thumb bit off by some black broad, who attacked him as he had her husband cuffed and husband was fighting with him. He had to beat her off with I believe his pistol, or she would of bit if off, he could feel her teeth slowly going thru skin as he beat her off of him.
