Baton Rouge police officer Howie Lake II returned to work Thursday, nearly two years after his involvement in the July 2016 killing of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, whose death ignited national protests.

Lake must re-qualify in firearm and defensive training before he can fully return to work. Peace Officer Standards and Training certification mandates that officers have annual refreshers.

Glad to have you back. Hopefully the rest of your career is a breeze.

He needs to go work in another city in another state, far away. Poor guy will always be under the spotlight here.

Poor guy won’t be able to fart without the fricktards criticizing it. He should go to another department. I’m happy for him though couldn’t imagine what he’s gone through for doing a good job.

Yep, Lake and Salamoni were paid around $130,000 combined to sit at home for two years because Gravy and friends are retarded.

This is what I was thinking when all of this first happened. I know home is home, after something like what happened, happens, it seems like looking into going into another city, somewhere that's around the size of Baton Rouge, to be a policeman, would be good for him.

I hope everything turns out well for him from here on out. The whole thing had to be extremely exhausting to go through

I would think for Lake, seeing as he didn't fire shots, the hardest part of the entire experience is knowing that something you were involved in resulted in the death/severe injury of six of your brothers. Obviously it was triggered by the fricking idiots like Gravy and the media, but just to know that it all started from that has to be so painful.

I'd be surprised if they put him on patrol. He'll likely either end up in a specialized division, a permanent detail, or in an office. I hope he goes on patrol, because I think he's a great officer, but I just don't know if Lake and/or BRPD want to risk that. Lake had already been through one OIS before Sterling and he'd only been on for four years.

If I was him stay alittle while and apply at another dept that pays better. This new chief will screw him on any little thing.
