Honestly that’s not an astronomical price for a home in 2024.. i feel like if you are someone who works remotely or is retired, this could be a pretty good situation .

if asking was about $250k-300k less, and NO property taxes, or taxes of any kind, I might go look at it

I can respect that .. BUT i will say that a high end home in a great neighborhood in middle America today is not far off from $800k, give or take.. and for many people, a certain type who has a rugged individualist streak, doesnt have school age kids etc- this setup would be prefereable to a suburban cookie cutter .

I'm off the grid right now and it's getting close to 100 degrees out there.

Is it the only thing on the island?

No.

Several other “remote” cottages on the same spit of sand.

true, but you're going to have quite the expenses keeping that place stocked, maintained, to and from for everything would be a logistical nightmare, you'd have to store a vehicle somewhere nearby, get to and from it, probably not insurable, but if your wanting to step into that league there's a lot more than just the asking price, sort of like buying a jet

All good points.. but someone else asked if there are other houses on the island, if there’s not then to me, it’s almost like ur buying your own private island, in which case $800k seems like a bargain .

that would have to be part of the deal, I have seen other small islands for sale in the keys that look appealing, at least to give it a try to see if we could handle all of that solitude

Take yourself down there then during the hot a$$ summer and wonder why your solar panels are not drawing enough power for your air conditioner to work. Want a refrigerator also along with the air conditioner? If I am to spend 800 hundred thousand on a pad, I am going to be comfortable.

these, or the absence of these would be a dealbreaker for me, if I were researching this I'd see about a generator, and there would be more expense and logistics, you'd have to have your tank refilled periodically

Relying on solar energy, rain cisterns, and no plumbing on a boat only accessible island sounds perfect for working from home

May consider purchasing just as a pitstop between island hopping with the yacht.
