Is "itch" an acceptable synonym for "scratch"?
It's still technically deemed an informal definition and is not recognized by many published dictionaries.
I noticed recently that a number of people across varying socioeconomic and educational backgrounds use this word on a regular basis.
For example, "I tried to itch my bite, but I couldn't reach it."
For the record, "scratch" is the only acceptable answer.

Common incorrect usage doesn't make something correct no matter what the damn English dictionary people say and this is an incorrect usage.
You have an itch and then you scratch it.
