But they have WaWa up in that part of the frozen North, so what is the difference?

I’m sure some things in NE would be new and eye opening to me. I, however, would not present it as quaint and for the simple minded.

Yeah, when I say yankee I really mean proggie. You know the type. Think they're Better than you, look down their nose at you, always so smug and right (when they are dead wrong).

I know the type. They live in those blue circles, listen to NPR, and love to correct your pronunciation of French words. I'm related to quite a few.

I travel a lot for work. Sometimes its in the blue circles and I enjoy the food and drink. Sometimes its in places like upstate New York, rural Michigan, Iron Range Minnesota. Lots of baws that were fun to spend time with as customers and maybe go bust some clays or have a few beverages after work as a thank-you for their business. We all would get along just fine and nobody would give a shite how you pronounce Thibodoux.

Northeasterners are far more regionally insular than they like to pretend.

Of the regions, I would put it at the top of insularity.

From the article:

quote:

The book began with a journalist’s curiosity, but ended up as a way for a daughter of the Deep South to make sense of the beautiful, brutal, complicated place she came from.

“These places hold great mystery,” she said. “You’re rolling down the road and they catch your visual attention. Then you wonder what’s behind that glass door when you hear that little bell ring. Is it the MAGA South? The welcoming South? Who’s at the cash register? Who’s at the grill?”

Chevron station just south of I-12 near Robert La has good fried catfish, and other stuff - boudin, crawfish pies. It’s our usual first stop when we are driving east from Houston heading to NC.

They are shocked to learn that the south has running water. So they are surprised that we'd have something like WaWa or Sheetz here.

Some of the best food can be had at gas stations here in Mississippi

And usually it’s by a sweet old black lady and they’ll say “ have a good day baby” and It makes me smile every freaking time

The people are often the best part of the experience. Also, my tastes are just like those in NOLA restaurants...if the chef / cook ain't at least 3 bills, I'm going elsewhere.
