Eastern European imported nurses…

It also only takes 30% to get to a vote. Then do you think Sally isn’t going to vote when her work place bestie Karen does?
This is why unions are cancer. It’s not like back in the day when baws were in terrible working conditions. Hell, janitorial employees have unions at most universities. It’s fkn insane.

Should LEO or Louisiana chemical plants be unionized?

Nurses at our hospital wanted a voice so we can speak up for our patients and ourselves,

Had no idea you were 23 and such a recent grad.
Was non traditional after the military a few years ago. Wife is also a RN student currently.
Do you think most nurses go from high school to top universities for entry level nursing? They don’t buddy, that’s a very small percentage.

What is your fear of unions about?
You don't have to join and agreed pay is only the base (you can be compensated above that amount).
Have you worked in a union, the actual complaints are totally different than what is being said in this thread.

Pay the replacements and anyone that wants to stay 15-20% more.
So no official union but the nurses get what they want?
Cool.

Having seen these nurses in person, these are the hot Eastern women you think they are...

You should thank us for putting her through school using our tax dollars. And we look forward to her Tik Toks all day.

It fricks over the consumer, business and diminishes the product/service.
I said a few posts ago I can understand why this is happening in healthcare after how they fired their staff and paid temp employees stupid money. Just not a big union guy as everything is moving in that direction.

Have your lattes been less basic since Starbucks unionized?
How does it frick over the business? They save a ton if done right.

I'm wondering just how awful an employer they have to be for 75% of the nurses to want a union.
I know several current and former nurses / other medical workers at UMC. Supposedly there is a ton of tension between employees and management. A ton.
So I’m not at all surprised by this vote.
Right now down here if you want to be a hospital nurse you have to work for LCMC (runs UMC) or Ochsner. That’s it.
And neither of those entities are exactly known as good places to work that are loved by their employees.
I think this is just the beginning.

I think you read too much Twitter conjecture or something. Private union participation is down to like 6% and has been falling for years and years.

If you owned a business do you want employees demanding shite then having leverage over you? Healthcare economics is a bit different of a beast but my post was in general relation to businesses and unions.

Leverege? You mean an employee negotiating their worth vs me threatening to replace them for cheaper labor?
Or do you mean I can account for my budget 3 years in advance? I can market to potential employees with a guaranteed pay structure? I can handle almost all personnel issues (and promotions) with a set standard agreed upon by all employees and enforced by employees.
Most US companies are shite when negotiating with unions. Because they approach with the wrong mentality. Euro companies do so much better.

He’s not entirely wrong. The nurses pushing for unionization aren’t of the specialized type. These are the Delgado associates type whose responsibilities don’t really go beyond taking vitals and inserting an IV.
I’m sure that they have a large number of LPNs thinking they should be paid what the RNs are making.
Posted on 12/11/23 at 9:06 pm to BigBinBR
They will push and see care diminish. More and more will be put on the LPNs.

Therein lies the issues. It’s hard to make sweeping generalizations about all unions and all industries.

Collective bargaining is legalized extortion.

You’re a little slow, aren’t you? Or else some nurse rejected you…
