Eric Reid:
quote:
Standing to Kaepernick’s left, with his hand over his heart, was former Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, who earned a Bronze Star in Iraq before spending last year’s training camp with the Seahawks as a long snapper. Kaepernick invited Boyer to the game after reading Boyer’s open letter in the Army Times earlier this week.
Boyer understood all along what so many people didn’t: Kaepernick’s beef isn’t with military members. Before the game, Kaepernick, Reid, and Boyer spent 90 minutes talking about avenues of protest. In the end, they settled on kneeling instead of sitting—a conscious decision to display respect and dissent at the same time.
Eric Reid:
quote:
“He is taking advantage of the platform that he’s given to bring awareness to a worthy cause,” Reid said after the 49ers’ exhibition game Thursday against the San Diego Chargers. “What’s more American than that?”

But the bigger issue is why he's sitting. The police aren't oppressing one and only one race. There are zero stats to make that argument that hold water. It's ridiculous. Couple that with the fact it's all you hear on sports talk shows now for the mist part and Kaep can die in a fire for ruining what is supposed to be the start to the best time of the sports year.
We're on the same page here. He's an ignoramus and even if he had a valid cause, the route he chose to protest it is asinine.
My only counter argument is to those who take such issue with the action itself. That is where I think people are a tad hypocritical, but it doesn't change the fact that Kaep is a fricking moron.

It's time to support this man and former tiger in what he chooses to do as a professional fooball player. I fully support Eric Reid no matter what he does (as long as it is legal) as a tiger fan, as an American and as an African American. I expect all of you to growup and do the same thing.
For those calling him a thug, he has no criminal record. He was the valedictorian at Dutchtown High School and scored very high on the wonderlic like kaepernick. He's a great person on and off the field. He used to live next to our house in college in lake beau pre. One time, Eric saw us having trouble moving our furniture in and helped us move everything. Means a lot that he would stop everything he was doing to help total strangers. One of the nicest people I've ever met.
Show a little respect for an all time great former tiger instead of getting your little panties twisted because he won't stand for a musically adapted British drinking song. Most of you don't know what it's like to be black, so maybe take a step back and try to empathize with Eric instead of verbally berating him. How do you think recruits will see this? You think they want to attend a school with fans that hate the all time greats? I don't think so.

Kaep is still a moron, but it appears he's getting his shite together a little bit better...

In the end, they settled on kneeling instead of sitting—a conscious decision to display respect and dissent at the same time.
“We were talking to him about how can we get the message back on track and not take away from the military, not take away from pride in our country but keep the focus on what the issues really are,” Kaepernick said. “As we talked about it, we came up with taking a knee because there are issues that still need to be addressed and there was also a way to show more respect for the men and women that fight for this country.”
Kaepernick stood for “God Bless America,” clapping after the song, and applauded at the periodic breaks to honor military members in attendance. After the game he announced plans to donate $1 million to a number of community organizations, and said he will continue his protest until he sees meaningful change.

Right that's exercising the first amendment, which you want to take away because it doesn't fit your narrative.

I haven't seen one person here say they want to take anyone's first amendment rights away.

Kaepernick and Reid are both great guys. Which makes the racist white people on this board that much more upset
