Life is suffering. This concept is laughable when you are young and obvious when you are old. Life strips from you, over time, not only the people you hold dear, but also your own perception of yourself. Every 75 year old understands this inherently.

Getting dead sucks worse.

You need to find something that really interests you and get into it, and find a purpose. If life is about watching TV shows and shite, I truly believe that makes you age faster, and is a recipe for depression to set in. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy like climbing mountains or the like, but getting outside and going on some minor hikes, sightseeing, traveling, exploring, whatever. Raise some chickens, take up painting, sculpting, pottery, wood working, collecting, metal detecting, model making, music, anything, just as long as you can get passionate about it and dive into it.

I think the worst thing for people who retire and don’t have anything they’re interested in is retirement itself. Humans are like working dogs. They have to have something to do or they will go stir crazy. It’s not natural or normal to be sedentary. That’s why it makes us miserable.

Read some old classic literature or philosophy.

Start journaling.

Fall in love again. Even if you’re married. The closest we ever get to living is falling in love.

Find some crisis or antagonist that needs to be dealt with by you.

I'm 53. As long as I'm healthy and not in prison, I figure there's a lot to look forward to.

I feel this way too for whatever it's worth. I don't know about you but as you get older and you don't have a wife and/or kids it gets very lonely. very depressing and routine. There's almost a complete absence of joy in life when you're like this, unless you really love your job or have a hobby that you love.
