Moving to the area before next summer and would like to hear the good and bad of the area marinas. Any help would be appreciated.

There's one, two, three marinas.

Marina del ray had openings when I was looking a month ago

Good:nice facilities, close to lots of stuff

Bad: of you're in a sailboat it's a long treck just to get on the lake

There's one in Madisonville on the Tchefuncte River. You can get to it from Hwy 22. It's a minutes from the lake

Del Ray is the nicest. Bad news is that it sucks as most marinas in LA do, but decent for LA standards.

Slidell has a few also. One in Bayou Liberty, one in Oak harbor right off the lake, Chamale Cove which is near heritage park, and I believe there's a marina near the Rigolets.

Prietos on bayou Castine is nice, but there is a wait list I believe.

I got a slip at a little marina further up bayou Castine. It's nothing fancy but it's dirt cheap with power and water

That's a nice quiet spot.

I don't need fancy and I like dirt cheap....power and water is all I need. Our slips here can get pretty elaborate, but I've always kept it simple. I just need to be able to power and wash her....and a pump out at the marina. A covered slip is preferable, too.

There really aren't any bad marinas. It just depends on what kind of boating you do. The one in Oak Harbor has a restaurant and a bait shop, Madisonville seems like the best place if you have a yacht. For fishing, I've always found the Pearl River is the best.

Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like plenty of good options. We'll have to check them out the next time down.

Wet or dry storage? Where do you want to be? River or lake? What size boat? Lakeshore in Slidell has a new Marina with both wet and dry storage. If you want to buy a slip, I know of several for sale on the Tchefunte for $10k each (wet). If you want to rent, I have an extra (wet) slip on the Tchefunte.
