I did not have recess when I was in middle school in the late 80’s/ early 90’s. I had PE every damn day though.

They cut out all the physical stuff because:
1. Schools are run by middle age women and they think that no PE = less aggressive males
2. They use that time now to study for the standardized tests.

I don’t remember if we had recess or not, but I’d imagine we just stood around and lied about kissing girls

Got to program the future corporate slaves man.

It really is a shame. Play is so essential for kids growing up, especially boys. Sticking a kid in a desk to be talked at for 8 hours is an outdated model, and you remove them even further from their natural state when you take physical play out of the equation.

One of my kids started 6th grade this year, and apparently there's no recess. When they finish their lunch, they just sort of hang out in the cafeteria. And they get PE once per week.

No wonder half these kids are fricking fatasses.

Curious if this is common. My middle school years were practically structured around "smear the queer" and football with a tennis ball.

No recess for us back in the mid-80s. Once you finished lunch that time was yours...but we had PE every day.

Well prescribing Ritalin or Adderall can help refocus them to combat that pent up energy.

Same for me in the mid to late 90s. Lunch was a little over an hour, when you were done eating you could go outside and do whatever, typically we played football or basketball. PE was every day.

PE should be a class. Not a once a week thing.
