The 3.5, yes, the 4.0, is better after they fixed the timing chain issues.

GM's 3.6, BMW's 3.3, Chrysler's 3.8 (?) are all very reliable across a number of vehicles.

I haven't heard anyone say that about the 4.0.

The part that I cannot understand is Nissan has the ability to make fantastic engines and vehicles. But they’ve made some serious miscalculations.

They need to ditch the Jatco CVT and either buy from a reputable vendor, build their own, or revert to using a regular automatic transmission.

They need to take Mazda’s approach: scale back, bring production under tight oversight and quality control, stick to tried and true technology they already have, focus on quality rather than hitting volume goals by flooding the rental market with cheap fleet vehicles, and for God’s sake, stop approving everyone with a pulse for financing.

Nissan has all the capability. They just keep making dumbshit decisions.

Those old 6s rivaled BMWs 6s for durability and bottom-end strength.

Great engines.

The only engine I had smoother and more reliable than the vq30 in my maxima was the 1uz v8 in my lexus.
