I’m a capitalist but Russia in 1917 was a Third World country masquerading as a Western monarchy. The ‘20s & ‘30s were terrible socially and culturally because of the Soviets and, almost unbelievably it got even worse in the 40s.

After the Cold War & since perestroika, Russia barely belongs in BRIC and, if the country were presently a equity, would certainly be a “sell”.

Had a decent Constitutional Monarchy somehow managed to survive there over the last century rather than the Bolshevik takeover, it’s very arguable that Russia would be much further ahead than it is today.
