So you can post several times in this thread but I can't without being ruffled. Got it.

No love-lost for glorified tree rats here. Colorado has had its second death from septicemic plague this year. The usual suspects are mice, rats, squirrels, and prairie dogs (It's seldom dogs and cats.)

Rat poison is frequently warfarin, an anticoagulent, the same blood thinner they give to heart patients to prevent clots. I doubt a dead squirrel would have enough warfarin in it's blood to poison a dog or cat. It could be dangerous if someone is baiting poison on the ground. Worse still is Bromethalin. It has no antidote and it causes brain swelling.

Since squirrels and rats can get in attics to nest (or chew electric wires), possibly someone set out poison in their attic. It's a dumb idea unless you enjoy the smell of rotting carcasses in the attic. Exterminators usually find their entrance, wait until the pest is in the attic and put a wire trap over the exit point.

Check yo' squirrels.

Has anyone near the intersection of ****** and ****** recently put out rodent poison? In the last week, I've noticed 2 dead squirrels in my yard. They both looked like they were young adults, so I thought it was odd that they had perished so young and that is the reason I thought poison might be to blame.
Here's the issue with it. My dog found the first one and I have been very concerned that she may have come in contact with the rodent and would get poisoned herself! And both of my neighbors have small children who play in their yards!!
Poisoned dead rodents and children and pets are not a good mix!!
If someone has put out poison, please consider another option in the future!!

Yeah what a gem. This is really something.

Glad my dogs cannot leave our backyard. They only get out if on a leash for a walk.
