Yeah, room doesn't have to be fancy. Main thing is

1. Clean
2. Safe

I don't know the exact proximity, but one that I recommend is the Drury Inn...damn good hotel that gives free parking, free breakfast, free long distance, and free drinks/snacks...check it out.

Stayed at The Whitney Hotel this past Thursday. Nothing fancy, but the architecture is neat since it's an old bank. Base rate was only $118. We valet parked and took Lyft service around town. Wound up walking back from Pat O's around midnight and felt safe.

So 99.5% of the hotels in the city.

Just don't book anything that says Motel

no problem....also, don't short yourself on time at the WW2 museum, as it is fantastic and takes a lot of time to get through if you do it right.

We're going down a night early just to make sure to have a complete day to take it in. I can't wait to see it.

LaPavillion gets my vote too. Upgrade to the Napoleon suite. It's worth it.

Took a little spring break trip there this week with the wife and kids. We drove down Wednesday morning and came back today. Stayed at the Ritz. It is older but super clean and the people there were great. Only bad part was it cost me 3k for the room for 4 nights and they still charged me an extra $15 a day for wifi.

Jesus. A room is like $150/night at the Ritz. You got hosed.

Loft 253 New Orleans, it's pretty nice and not far from the WWII museum.

You're going to love it. A history buff line you can EASILY spend the entire day there. On Memorial Day Weekend, I'm sure there'll be some WWII vets working as docents. Those guys are always interesting.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but they have been renovating an old PT boat (305, served in the Med) for about ten years. They recently moved it from the museum and out to the lake. They've been running sea trials and getting the USCG inspections done. I know the plan is to start offering rides. No clue on the details, but if that's of interest to you, that might be something else to check out.

Also, it might be worth calling the museum to see if they are affiliated with any of the nearby hotels. (I think they are actually planning a ~200 room hotel in one of their proposed expansions. There are people, older vets in particular, who just come to N.O. for the museum.)
