Supa, I like the design. Traffic is meant to FLOW, not jam up with in/out access to 50 businesses, Circle K, etc, all near the intersection.

Johnston at camellia is brutal and you know they want to make it better for the river ranch folks

True, I don't see how that thing would get built there now. There is a whole lot less room at Johnston/Camelia than Airline/Seigen. It's hard to retrofit a city (esp Lafayette) with new infrastructure.

the river screws up a lot of the "retrofitting" that they could do but I agree buying the right of ways to build this intersection would be incredibly expensive but ulitmately necessary

isn't this the same set-up they put at Siegen and Airline Hwy?

Yes, but they only built the new special lanes for turning left from Airline onto Sherwood/Seigen. They did not add the special turn lanes for turning left from Sherwood/Seigen onto Airline.

So how does the one in Baton Rouge work. Is the traffic better now or is it still congested?

I think it has made traffic flow alot better through the intersection on the Airline side, where the special turn lanes were added. The Siegen/Sherwood sides are still bad, especially Sherwood. I think the new turn lanes help, but Airline has other problems (i.e. it narrows down from 3 to 2 lanes East-bound, and Jefferson Highway merges in, right before the intersection).

At the old Academy intersection ... one way is Guilbeau and the other is Camellia. If you're going SOUTH Camellia is to the left ... if you're on Johnston going NORTH it's on the right.

Good luck putting that at Johnston & Camelia. What used to be Charity's gift shop will never allow that.

you should go work for DOTD. The biggest problem we have is poor access control. Freakin intersections and signals near ramp terminals like range/rushng in denham cause huge back ups.

People in BR are forced to use the interstate as a local road because our arterial systems like airline have several traffic signals per mile. We have plenty of room on airline to build a 72 ft median and have u-turns and eliminate most of the crossing streets removing the majority of those signals.

That intersection onsiegan and airline is a continuous flow intersection it's a mexican design. first one was in mexico city. There is one in DC near the pentagon and one in NY.

What I want to see BR build is a diverging diamond interchange (I think one just opened in missouri) and a single point urban interchange. That would be cool
