People who want an urban lifestyle are leaving Baton Rouge because it doesn't offer what they want. They are going to bigger/better cities. It's not because people are backwards here. Very, very ignorant.

Hmmmmm, I wonder why that is??!!

read that once more.

Well, I've never seen a city that didn't have a downtown. I thought surely the St. George must have one.

Baton Rouge doesn't attract young, urban professionals who want to live in the urban core. Until Baton Rouge can attract business that will attract these kind of people, they'll continue moving to cities that offer far more.

Self fulfilling prophesy... Is self fulfilling prophesy.

When will Baton Rouge attract the type of business that young urban professionals like when the businesses that attract those kinda of people are looking for those kinds of people to locate themselves around.

If I were in one of those companies and drove through downtown Baton Rouge, would I think it were the kind of place for my business?

If I were a higher end retailer, would I look for my demographics or would I expect my demographics to look for me? Same for all retailers. Revitalize the area, and make it a desirable area, and they will find you and want to be right in the mix.

IBM should help, being the LA South helps a lot, expansion of downtown with apartments and grocery stores and continuous expansions in Petrochemical means more engineering jobs. If LSU and BR are able to accomplish their goal for the metro to run from the campus to downtown will eliminate the dilapidated area and make river road to highland a desirable place to live.

I moved around quite often and couldn't wait to get out of here at one point in time. I get that, but if there was something to keep you here in quality of life, it would be a bigger draw, and if that saw a whole vibrant and fun community spring up, that might make life a lot more attractive here for many people to help make it a better place.

Are they going to jack up our property taxes?

Cats is a failure. They need to just accept that. Everyone knew it from the beginning.
