Some, well most, people have no idea how a dealership works.
btw-While most dealerships have the manager figuring the numbers there are some that allow the salesman to actually wheel and deal.
And the finance office will often get 2-3 points of interest kicked back from the bank buying the loan. You're almost always better off getting your own money.

One thing most of us can agree on, sales managers tend to be the cheesiest slime balls walking this earth. Seriously, is there like a "how to be cheesy" sales class that they all have to take?
You can spot them from across the show room. It is some sort of weird eye contact thing they have that makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I hope he does not walk this way towards me.
Damn it, he is reaching out to shake my hand. He looks ok but as soon as he speaks, you just start shaking your head. Managers should not be allowed out of their little control room. Just stay behind that glass window buddy and write those numbers down.
Rant off.

You think that is a negotiating tool that works?
it cuts through about half the BS gamesmanship of "let me go clear that with the manager". they use the trade in and financing as distractions to get you off your game while they keep adding phantom costs in the price like $900 wax job for paint protection while calling it the special dirt repelling armor coating or some BS
everyone knows it arrives at the dealer and they put a markup on it, after that the salesman only gets paid based on how far above that markup price he can get for it. he can use trade in value and financing to offset the number to reach his quota goal of percentage over markup price

The only time I’ve bought a vehicle, my salesman was badass I thought. I left thinking I got a good deal, I’m sure it was a lot less great than I actually believe, but he was cool and I felt like he didn’t completely try and frick me over.
I left the dealer, manager called at 6:30 pm with what I wanted in regards to final price and I drove back up there, signed the paperwork and my salesbro handed me a Shiner and asked if I wanted a cig lmao.

Kinda harsh, don’t you think?Car salesman just trying to make a living.I’ve been dealing with the Walker dealerships in Alexandria for a good many years and find their service to be very good ,they have never tried to gouge me.As far as politicians,I tend to agree, especially of the federal level.

The people downvoting you are the "experts" that know how to buy a damn car!
They are the ones that end up getting banged the hardest.
