I've had one root canal. Never had any bad pain during or after. Didn't even take any of the lortabs I was prescribed. May have taken an ibuprofen.

You say you waited too long to get the tooth checked out. If you are not taking good care of your teeth you may find a root canal more trouble in the future than you want.
Just noticed its a molar a multiple root canal and a crown. Been there done that had to have the tooth pulled about 8 years later. When I was in my 20s dentist said my teeth were in a condition he would expect an 80 year olds teeth to be in. Has sucked for years. And, yes, I hate to go the dentist!
