We had one of those cheap telescopes you find everywhere, it sucked donkey balls and the experience was so bad, the kids lost interest quickly.
They Love using aps like Skyfinder and Skyview. (You should download one or both) They use augmented reality to spot celestial things and describe them. It’s pretty awesome and a great intro to the hobby.
I went to a Celestron dealer here in ATL area and left with this scope linked below. They had cheaper versions, this is just the one we got.

It comes with a couple eyepieces, is powerful, and easy to use. You can download their app, and it works like the apps I mention above. Want to see Mars? It tells you where to point that scope.
We bought a few extra eyepieces and a moon filter. If you look at the moon when it’s bright, it can be tough to look at or even dangerous.
You can see crater detail and impact trails on the moon. You can see details on the surface of Mars. It’s really cool. Need to find Saturn next!
The apps I listed are free, but have paid versions that are cheap. Might be a good first step to see how interested your kid is?

Perhaps, I'd vote for a nice pair of binoculars
Telescope is better for what OP wants. You set it up on a tripod and find the moon or planet you want to see, then step away.
Be a lot harder to keep binoculars steady.

Get her a Dobsonian type telescope.
Normally I would agree but at 5 the eyepiece on a Dobsonian may be too high for her.

Celestron makes some pretty good affordable stuff. That's what my spotting scope is and it's very nice.
I highly suggest the spotting scope with a 45 degree angled eyepiece for what the OP wants considering his daughters age.

I bought the Skywatcher 200p a few years back. It’s very basic but very powerful.
I have to line it up for my boys and they still bump it . It’ll be better as they age.
I can see Uranus from my driveway
