In LA both parents listed on the birth certificate have identical rights unless they elect to give up those rights voluntarily or by court order.
To the poster blabbing about child support, that would only apply if the father chose not to house the child and care for him in the traditional home tearing sense. If the duties are shared it will simply be a matter of totalling the sum of the two incomes and using that as a factor for what he or she may owe he other partner to maintain a level lifestyle for the child.
The solid play is to file preemptively for at least 50% rights if that’s what he wants, or have her write him off without any indemnity whatsoever.

What’s the formula to be used ?
Father will be asking for 50%.

Yet another kid gonna be all screwed up by unwed parents.
Yes, I kow he has a chance to succeed, but the baby is already behind the 8-ball.
Downvote if you like, but it's true. 2 parent homes are the best for a child.
At least though, your nephew is willing to be in his life, so that's a big plus.

Child is young enough to not remember and can thrive
If both parents make over 100k combined have good family support and live within their means then they will be ok
Better than 2 parents that are miserable together

Hi buddy.
As for as the OP. The only option, if he wants to get it done right, is to hire a good lawyer. As in, don't go to the first lawyer he comes across, make sure he is getting someone who will do their job in his best interest.
