Wife has a clean, low milage, 2013 Ford Edge her commute is less than one mile from our home.

We may be forced to purchase her a new car because a part has been discontinued.

Purchasing a new car isn't the end of the world but a low milage cream puff shouldn't meet it's end because of a failed climate control interface.

I've searched all I can online. Mechanic has given up. The junkyards can't locate anything.

So I summon the OT, can you help find this part?

DT4Z-18842-CA has to be exact?

I appreciate your consideration.

Chat gpt led me to a company that MIGHT be able to rebuild it.

1. United Radio — my first choice

United Radio is the company I'd call first.

They specialize in factory automotive electronics repair/remanufacturing, and their current automotive contact information lists:

United Radio Automotive Electronics
East Syracuse, New York
800-448-0944
315-446-5570

My wife has the exact same vehicle. I’ve had to reset the climate control on several occasions when the heater or a/c wouldn’t turn on. There’s YouTube videos with instructions. I assume that isn’t the problem. Other than that, the car runs like a top and haven’t had problems.

This was underneath the other suggestion:

2. PCB Improvement — currently advertising Edge FCIM repair

I also found a current listing from PCB Improvement specifically advertising:

"Repair your 2011–2017 Ford Edge A/C Temp Climate Control Radio FCIM Panel."

They currently list the service at:

$540

and describe it as repair of YOUR original climate/radio control panel, rather than simply selling you a used part. The listing currently shows the service as remanufactured and says it is guaranteed to work.

That's considerably more than the historical United Radio pricing, so I'd call United Radio first.

Chat GPT says...

The important discovery is that DT4Z-18842-CA does not appear to have to be the exact number stamped on the replacement. Ford catalog information shows DT4Z-18842-CB as replacing/superseding DT4Z-18842-CA.

For a used unit, though, I would be even more precise. The number to concentrate on is the engineering number on the rear label:

DT4T-18A802-CA
or
DT4T-18A802-CB

Those two are grouped together by recyclers under Hollander interchange 638-08102. Automotix currently says it has 2 units in stock in that interchange and specifically states that CA and CB replace one another for a 2013 Edge.

I found one I would seriously consider buying

LKQ currently has an OEM 2013 Ford Edge control panel listed on eBay for $231.08 with free shipping and a 90-day parts warranty. Most importantly, the listing identifies:

Interchange: 638-08102
OEM IDs: DT4T-18A802-CA / DT4T-18A802-CB
Ford service number: DT4Z18842CA

That is about as good a match as I could ask for without seeing your wife's original panel.

I also found Benzeen Auto Parts listing a 2013 Edge OEM control panel using DT4Z18842CA, DT4T18A802CA and DT4T18A802CB, again identified as interchange 638-08102. They state it is tested/inspected and carries a one-year warranty.

There is also a very attractive Plan B: repair hers

This may actually be what I would do with a very clean, low-mileage car.

There is an active repair service specifically for the 2011–2014 Ford Edge radio/A/C climate-control panel, including DT4T-18A802-CA and CB. They specifically say they repair problems involving buttons not working or operating on their own. The current price is $299, the seller shows 99.9% positive feedback, and the listing shows 49 sold. You send them your original unit, they repair it, and you get your original back.

There's another company, PCB Improvement, offering a mail-in FCIM repair and guaranteeing repair of the customer's original climate/radio control panel, although they are considerably more expensive at $540.

Am I missing something? If this is the same thing, those things are all over eBay.
