Bought mine brand new. Happy I did.
I get all the practical points, but I enjoy the new incentives with servicing and such. And, it’s purty.

Just beware of craigslist scammers. Tons of fake boat listings out there. If the price is too good to be true, it likely is. I've been used boat shopping for a few months and came across a good deal. Started up an email conversation via the seller's "work" email. Checked the domain and it was created the same day. Listing and their domain were both canceled shortly after.

Water test or have a mechanic (or very knowledgeable buddy) check the engine. Decide what you want. Check classifieds. Be ready to buy when what you want is posted. Don’t pay the offer price.

think about this: if every sportsman waited to fish until he had $50k+ cash to allocate solely to a hobby, the water would be awful sparce. Hell, going lower would still alienate most average guys.
I will say this, if you can't finance at a reasonable rate (boat rates can be stupid high), then you should weigh options more careful including not purchasing something.
