Toms are super comfortable, but won't look good unless you wear slim fit jeans, IMO.
I wear some navy Keds I got from Brooks Brothers that look good with jeans. I think they make red ones, too.

I don't think I could bring myself to walk out of the house in tennis shoes and jeans. I just feel uncomfortable after not doing it since 6th grade. I threw on my running shoes when going to the running shoe store so that they could see the wear and suggest new shoes and my wife stopped me at the door "why the hell do you have tennis shoes on with your jeans 
". Kind of solidified me not wearing them together.

Absolutely. I hate loafers and boat shoes. I own two pairs of vans. I live by the beach though and don't have to worry about Louisiana fashion police
