I had an overhead dvd player installed a few years ago and it finally crapped out.
I purchased a new one from amazon but can not get it wired properly.
Original:
red:accessory
yellow: 12V+
black: ground
white: door trigger

[/img]
New:
red: acc 12v+
black: ground
yellow: b+
blue: tr+
small black: tr-
[/img]
i can get it to come on...the problem is I can not figure the connection to get it to turn off when I open the doors.

I can't help you with the wiring but I can offer this-
Make sure that everything you mount up there is locked in place tightly. I have a friend who lost a child in a low speed accident because a piece of A/V apparatus came loose and struck the child in the head.
I'll never have one because of that incident.
Good luck on your issue.

Blue or small black are probably the door trigger.
Some vehicles use positive door trigger and some use negative. So figure out which one your car uses and connect that to the old trigger wire

so do i abandon either the original red accessory or yellow 12V?

Yellow should be hooked to battery meaning a constant on +12v source. black to ground. Red wire is Acc 12v and should be hooked to the acc line. This is only on when the key is turned. Those 3 should be enough to have it turn off when you turn the car off.
That's how 99% of car electronics are wired, although I've never worked with a overhead DVD. The door trigger wire seems unnecessary

Tr+ goes to the dome light wire generally

It will only come on if I go original yellow to red.
