Us Internet mechanics at least need some pictures of the oil cap for proper diagnosis.

I wonder if OP has heard a loud pop while driving before.

Sorry I don't have any photos and I am about to hit the road. Never heard a pop.

I will try to report back when we get to FL to see if some of the gunk burned off.

Like a single loud pop or something continuous like a backfire?

If it's backfiring that wouldn't have anything to do with oil, and a knock wouldn't be a "loud pop."

Both of those two could be causes. Get it hot and then look in there. You can also get little strips to see if there is oil in the coolant. Might just be condensation that needs to be burned off.

I have dealt with a blown HG multiple times. Symptoms aren't always as bad as everyone is saying. They could be bad; they could be light

Please please please take my advice and call the place where you got your oil changed BEFORE you leave. You want it on record in case something happens on your trip, God forbid.

If it's a big chain, call the corporate office.

I think he would have more issues than he's saying if it were a blown head. There's no white smoke (burning oil in the engine, coming from the exhaust), no knocking, no missing, and no smell. Don't go freaking the poor guy out just yet

You're not helping me here. I need a decent truck

Lol, I hear ya on that. Toyota trucks will drive until the wheels fall off in most cases.

A lot of my friends are buying late 80's-early 90's Yota trucks to use just for mud riding. I've seen them start right up after sitting for 10 years, with 200-300k miles on the odometer.

This could also be a fault in your crankcase ventilation system - such as a PCV valve or vacuum lines - minor fix.

Just run it for like 30 minutes straight and look at the cap. Also, you should've asked the oil change place what your oil looked like. They are the kings of the upsell, so I'm sure they would've said something if you had chocolate milk coming out

PCV valve

Could definitely be the cause. If it's clogged, that would easily explain a moisture buildup, good call.
