Need Dryer maintenance advice

My dryer stopped working mid cycle yesterday. I pulled the back panel off and unplugged it. As soon as I plug it back in and turn the timer knob it will run for a couple of seconds and then shut off.
So I figured I needed to replace the timer seeing as the motor would not stay running and would just making a constant ticking noise.
I pulled the old one out and replaced it just now. Plugged the dryer back in, turned the timer, runs for two seconds and stops. It is ticking again.
What else could be preventing the timer from running?
I just spent $130 on this damn thing and it won't run.

The vent hose may be obstructed, may cause the dryer to overheat. You need to remove lint from the hose couple times a year, depending on use...

Hose is clean as a whistle... could it be stopped up before it gets to the hose?

Yes

Okay, well I reached my arm up through the bottom after removing the hose and don't feel any stoppages. Also pulled the lint catch out and shoved a screw driver down and don't see or feel anything.
I think it's clean

Could be, I dismantled the shoot on the back of my older model and it was caked with lint.
Maybe open the back, run and test the safety links line and load if you are OK with that.

Flip the breaker completely off and then back on. Do not use eye test. Then check thermal shut off.

Just pulled the whole covering off. It's clean besides a little lint caked on the sides but nothing major.
What's next?

Its possible, or the sensor could be bad, giving a false reading, causing it to shut off. I'm assuming that you cleaned the vent screen, also??

Yeah that's the first thing I did.

If you're OK with it, just let it cool off and run it again. Test both sides of the links to ground when you turn it on and when it shuts off do the same. If the reading are different you should know what link is bad.
Or wait for Napoleon.

How do I test the thermal fuse? I read if the dryer gets too hot it opens up and shuts it down. I don't have a ohmmeter, is there another way?

Yep, but I don't want to raise your kids. Nappy will be along soon, I'd wait.
