Just had the motor mounts and transmission mount changed on my 2012 Audi A7…. Less than 300 miles later I get major oil leak.. mechanic says a failure of seal at cooler and engine block… I noticed a small oil stain (few drips) where I parked it in my garage after the repair in the morning .. figured residual oil ( they changed the oil and flushed fluids also).. now big stain after taking it out and driving a bit and back in garage.

Can changing motor mount and transmission mount ( did that also) … cause an oil leak at cooler and engine block seal.. I have used this mechanic for years and he does European cars so I do trust him.. but darn .. less than 48 hours after it was in his shop a major seal failure..

Audis fall apart after 35-75k miles, depending on your luck.

Isn't the oil cooler (I assume that is what you meant) soft-mounted (via hose) vs hard-mounted with a gasket on those engines?

He probably removed the oil cooler to access the motor mounts. If he reused the old o-ring, that's probably the source of the leak.

Once the assembly is loose, you will see the “figure 8” gasket that needs replacing (077115441) as well as the broken oil cooler pipe (077117411A) that is the source of your current trouble. Be sure to remove the leftover pipe (usually about 1/4" of a broken ring) from the engine block and don’t forget to get 3 required O-rings (077121437).

Idk….. but he sent me a video of the active leak and oil seeping out of where a bottom square metal pan (?) appears to be bolted to a top pan (?). Definitely leaking around what I would have described as an oil pan ( I am sure I am using the wrong term. I do not work on cars) but definitely metal to metal and where I would expect a gasket to be.

I had my Audi over 150k miles with no problems until someone hit me and totaled it. They are good cars. You just have to take care of them and don’t skip maintenance.

I work in a dealership. I am ALWAYS on the dealers side. This sound like some frickery. Mounts don’t fail in 300 miles, not all of them. I don’t know Audi, but my bet is on “they fricked something up” and are trying to get by. My guess is they are gonna warranty the mounts and “take care” of the oil leak for you.

Mounts don’t fail in 300 miles

I am not real good at being clear with my typing..

The mounts had 95 k on them … he changed them… then I had a major oil leak … he says the oil is leaking from the seal between the oil cooler and engine block… he sent a video and I see active dripping and seeping from where it looks like a lower pan sets into and bolted onto an upper pan..

Thanks for your comment

I was curious if there was a cause and effect possibility between the motor mount change and new oil leak.. not saying he did anything wrong but may just have had to jostle things that caused a seal that was old to fail.. idk
I know nothing about cars.

On a side note to get y’all going..
I had it towed from my garage to mechanic shop.. AAA.. tow guy tried removing my tow eye cover and was prying on my headlight washer cover with a screwdriver.. I put my hand down there as he was doing it poked the cover and was inquiring and the corner of the square cover fell into my hand.. he the saw the round cover and realized he was prying on the wrong thing and broke something… said he would pop the broken piece back in.. I said no give it to my mechanic.. then he popped the tie eye cover off..

Mechanic. Said he ordered a new washer cover and will have it painted and will install it.. getting a repair bid.. called AAA and they told me to work it out with tow company.. tow company says I broke it ( I did not pry or have a screw driver but it did fall when I poked it)… tow company will not call me back… putting in a damage claim with AAA..

Been a crummy morning…

That sucks, I learned the hard way (not the wrong cover but scratching the valance with a screwdriver) and now have the cover off and the tow eye screwed in before the tow truck arrives.

My brother is an Audi tech, so I text him. The oil cooler has to come off to swap motor mounts, and replacing the gasket is required, so odds are the gasket didn't get replaced if that's where the leak is coming from. If it's coming from the oil pan gasket that's unrelated to the motor mount job.

“Seal between the cooler and engine block failed “

Those are the exact words my mechanic texted me….
