Alex Hawke series by Ted Bell

The Jack Ryan series.
Just make sure you read it in order to avoid spoilers. (And don't google it because spoilers might pop up as well).
I'm going from memory here. Someone can correct me if this is the wrong order:
Without Remorse*
Patriot Games
Red Rabbit#
Hunt for Red October
Cardinal of the Kremlin
Clear and Present Danger
The Sum of All Fears
Debt of Honor
Executive Orders
Rainbow Six+
The Bear and the Dragon
* - Prequel published in the middle of the series, so a lot of Clancy fans read it after they read some of the others. But if you're a new fan it wouldn't hurt to read it first.
# - No references in later books so you can skip it without missing anything
+ - Part of the Jack Ryan universe but he plays no role and is barely even referenced
Red Storm Rising wasn't part of the Ryan timeline so it can be read separately.

Don't forget Acts. Luke and Acts were originally one book.

Casca the Eternal Mercenary
LINK
Created and written by author Barry Sadler in 1979. The stories revolve around the life of Casca Rufio Longinus, the soldier in the Roman legions who drove the Holy Lance into the side of Jesus Christ on Golgotha, and (in the novels) who is doomed by Jesus to wander the Earth aimlessly, always as a soldier, until the Second Coming. The character is loosely based on the Longinus legend of Christianity.

I highly recommend the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. There are 17 so far and he is still writing. Only one has made movie status so far. The movie was "Jack Reacher" of course but the book was "One Shot."
Books are combination military intel and crime dramas. Oddly enough the author is a Brit.

Eminent Lives series
Just finished reading bio on Machiavelli. Good stuff.
For sci-fi/fantasy buffs, Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

A Song of Ice and Fire (George RR Martin)
It's out of your request of more techno thrillers, but I'll still throw this out there:
Both are modern world/fantasy mash ups with a liberal dosage of smartass protagonists:
The Iron Druid Chronicles
The Dresden Files (it's a bit slower start, and the first book is his first published work ever, but it is the better of the two. The world, writing, and quality settles down around book 3)
They are all fairly short as well, easier to start and stop as you go about your day.

Eh....no major references.
A character comes back in The Bear and the Dragon.

Everyone else has already stated the more well known dramas, so I'll give you one from left field.
Warhammer 40k
Some of the best fantasy/sci-fi ever written, it's like Sherlock Holmes and Judge Dredd rolled into one.
