If someone locally wasn't dumb, they'd start a "cloud first" SMB IT shop, and show these companies why it makes absolutely 0 sense for them to maintain anything on site other than workstations.

thanks for the suggestions. have a nice list of options that i will be checking out.
I know some of the work (website) is things that will likely not be included in IT contracts. That is fine. I would rather someone to manage IT duties before the website gets updated.

Exactly.
Cloud everything, pay a monthly fee, call out a local when absolutely necessary.
Generally though, that market is too busy trying to save money to follow the logic.

Even that can be mitigated by redundant firewalls and internet connections.
I tend to agree though. Especially with a small shop. You can put almost everything in the cloud.
