My neck feels like it locked up. In order to turn my head, I have to turn my entire upper body like Batman due to his cowl. It feels like the pain would be gone if I could crack it but it won't crack. It's hard to hold my head up and it feels like I have a giant bobble head. Today, my left arm felt tingly and numb. When I turn, it feels like a rubber band stretched so much that it's about to pop. What can I do to fix this? I went to a chiropractor a few months ago and their solution was treatment 3 times a week for 6 months with each visit costing $80...

If you’re having any tingling or weakness in your extremities you need to schedule an appointment with a spine surgeon

I get the same thing from time to time. Basically, it is likely a disk in your neck squeezing on one of the nerves that runs down your left arm. Believe me, the thing not to do is to try to crack your neck....that only irritates the nerve and makes the whole issue last longer.

What usually works for me is to take something to knock back inflammation (I use regular asprin) and keep your neck as immobile as you can. once the inflammation subsides, the whole issue seems to go away.

You'll find out some c4-c6 nerve pinching or corporal tunnel. If the thumb, pointer and middle finger is numb when you wake up it'll be like what I'm dealing with. It started out like what you described but after 5 months it went down to pain and numb.

Thanks for the suggestions. If I turn my head to merge into traffic, that's all it takes for my neck to lock up the rest of the day. I literally had to grab my head off the pillow to switch positions last night and it was painful to do so.

Let me guess... that also just coincidentally happens to be the exact number of visits your insurance will cover, as well, right?

I had similar and went to an orthopedist. He x-rayed it and did not see anything.

Gave me a script for pain killers and muscle relaxers. And sent me to a PT.

I never went to the PT and took only a few pain/muscle relaxers. Took several months but much better.

Also, don’t turn your head to merge in traffic. Just put the blinker on and hope for the best.

When mine acts up, I SLOWLY & SMOOTHLY do neck exercises with the hot shower water on full blast on my neck.

All movements are as far as you can turn to firmly reach the limit of movement. Over the course of days, your range of motion should improve and pain recede.

10 rounds chin to chest and all the way back.

10 rounds left ear towards left shoulder then right ear over towards right shoulder.

10 rounds chin high above right shoulder then rotate back to chin high above left shoulder.

10 rounds turn head to look behind you over one shoulder then the other.

8 slow neck rolls circles clockwise then counter clockwise.

I don’t use my hands to exaggerate any movement.

This is not daily except when there is a problem and I’ll usually taper it off after a week or so total.
