Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said officers responded to a 911 call Tuesday evening reporting a man with a gun near a shopping center in eastern Raleigh. She said arriving officers spotted a person matching the caller’s description, later identified as 26-year-old Javier Torres.
Torres ran and was chased by officers who repeatedly ordered him to stop and drop the gun, Deck-Brown said. Torres was shot in the abdomen by an officer who had joined the chase, the chief said, adding that the suspect was running directly toward that officer and would not drop his gun.
Community activist Kerwin Pittman said he spoke to witnesses after the shooting, and they told him Torres was unarmed, something the police chief later denied. Similar witness accounts saying the suspect also appeared to be a teenager had circulated on social media.
“Witnesses say Javier Torres did not have a gun. They say he was carrying a pizza box,” Pittman told The Associated Press by phone early Wednesday morning.
“The city is fed up,” Pittman said. “We feel there is always something happening with the Raleigh Police Department. We feel like they are brutalizing us,” he added.

Stopped reading here. I’m good with whatever happened.

If he was carrying a pizza box and not a gun, then this is inexcusable. How does someone confuse a square, cardboard pizza box for a fricking gun?
On the other hand, frick these reporters for trying to push the idea that he was carrying a pizza box and not a gun if he was indeed carrying a gun.
Should be pretty easy to sort out though.

Then witnesses saying he was unarmed can get fricked.

Probably not the Raleigh police dept so much as the assholes they have to deal with, who apparently run from police for just holding a pizza box.
ETA typo

Body cam of officer who shot the guy was on and the police are preparing to release it, which leads me to believe the cop was in the right.

The article says they have the footage and it will be released. Interesting the tidbits the OP posted when he linked the article

You know what's interesting... I haven't seen a single post anywhere about the 2 cops that shot the unarmed guy in the subway in Chicago... wonder why?

In the guy's defense if it was and AK-14 they do look a good bit like a pizza

Not only that, but they initiated it. They aren't responding to some request. This definitely seems like the cop will be in the right.

Deck-Brown said the officer who fired the shot was wearing a body camera, as were others at the scene. At her direction, the department asked a judge to release the footage, and the judge approved their request. Police spokespeople did not immediately respond to an email asking how the video would be released.

wait for the footage to come out that he either had a gun either in the pizza box or this pants. same result as Mr sterling. Don't resist and you will not face death by cop.

A pizza box and a gun look nothing alike. As much as I'm sure the activists want to play the "cops are dumb" card, no cop is confusing the two.
The fact that the department is already releasing body camera footage indicates that this is about to be proven to be another SJW activist lie.

Pizza box theory came from social media.....body cams will set the record straight. The group that marched to the governor!s mansion, took down the flags, then burned them need to go to jail.
