Would anybody know the chemical composition of Natural Gas that we receive in our homes and businesses?

I'm dealing with European Customers and they have G20, G23, and G25 Natural Gas Available.

Which is essentially 100% Methane, 93% Methane, and around 86% methane.

They are building me essentially a large hot water tank and are inquiring about the percentage used in the US

I have spoke to several natural gas providers and they have no one that can give me an answer to the chemical composition of our natural gas

I did a quick search on LINK (American Gas Association).

They are most likely to have standards on natural gas composition but that information may be available for fee only.

They may also have cross references to the Euro standards. Hope this helps.

As close to 100% methane that the gas provider can get it. And yes there is a small amount of mercaptin so you can smell it.

The gas we put in the transmission line is usually between 94-97% methane. I have not looked at an analysis lately but that is what I recall. The rest are C2 and above in small amounts. Mercaptan is added before it hits your house through the distribution system.

I'm curious about the application of your water heater. Any more you can share?
