Sounds kinda ridiculous to me.

Kinda like shooting a speeding semi truck with a BB gun and expecting it to change its course.

Some of those asteroids contain trillions of dollars worth of precious metals.

If our government could figure out a way to mine that material, they could give billions to other countries and send everyone here a check for $6.

Wish they could fire a spacecraft at the White Houde and change our country's course!

What is the purpose of this unless it is a test run for an event we the general public are not aware of?

Better to see if you can do it on a "non threat" than test it for the first time when the consequences are dire.

That thing is traveling at 4 miles per second. I'd hate to be the guy with the joystick.

Is it going to be destroyed on impact or is it going to essentially land and fire thrusters?

If destroyed, how long until NASA gets readings and knows whether it worked or not?

At 14000 mph it's definitely an impact event.

Looks like they picked an asteroid not much bigger than the spacecraft if you ask me.
