Napoleon down to 2 lanes? This is nuts

Apparently the neighbors are up in arms about the neutral ground being reduced. Oh also the freaking Carnival krewes.
Removing the second traffic lane would be a disaster. If they are so worried about protecting the neutral ground, how about removing the parking lane? (which they should also do on St Charles). It makes no sense for this city to devote so much space on major arteries to cars that are not moving.

We should just get rid of roads altogether.
Just get where we want to go on good vibes, rainbows and unicorns.

Does Napoleon really need two travel lanes in each direction along the parade route?
ETA: Seriously asking, DOTD's traffic counts don't have a station there.

Napoleon is already 2 lanes. Removing a lane would make it 1 lane. Which is fricking insane.
And frick removing the parking lane. It has been removed for months now and it is making life hell for those if us who live on Napoleon

Yes it does. With the current construction, it is down to only 1 lane and the traffic is beyond ridiculous. It needs both lanes.

Well you have to factor in the absolutely shite conditions at the moment, and lane shifts etc. That plays a huge part in the traffic.

It needs both lanes.

How often do you drive on Napoleon out of curiosity?

No. Just no. I hate not having a place to park.

Usually 3 times a week. Maybe more depending on work.

That will never happen.

I can't belive you do that and think it would be ok as one lane dude. Come on.

From the river to St Charles? I'm not saying all of Napoleon.

So buy a house with a driveway. Public streets shouldn't be treated as private parking lots - their primary purpose is moving people through.

And now that I've dug a little deeper into the traffic count site. I have some numbers that I think support the idea that Napoleon doesn't need two lanes.
Napoleon just north of St Charles: 20087
ST Charles west of Jefferson: 19303
Napoleon will lose a good chunk of that ADT to St Charles, so you're talking about less traffic that what is on St Charles in a section that is already one travel lane. In my opinion the only time traffic is backed up on that area of St Charles is end of school day type hours, where congestion is to be expected. Napoleon doesn't have two colleges to worry about in the section we're discussing.
Going just that information, I don't see any glaring reasons why Napoleon needs to be two lanes from the river to St Charles. You could easily have a dedicated turn lanes at the intersection to alleviate congestion for through traffic, and minimize neutral ground impacts. I'm sure there is better information to go off of, but for now I don't think two lanes are necessary.

And eliminating street parking will eliminate the shoulder, then any time someone breaks down or there is an accident you'll piss and moan that they are completely blocking the street and shut down traffic in the area.

I have one.

It's not a parking lot. It has a parking lane.

So by your logic no one should park on any street?

Clearly you are not from here. It's not real easy to just buy a house with a driveway here, this isn't Prairieville bro. The parking lane ain't going anywhere, that's not even on the table.
You know what's going to happen? It's going to be like Baronne downtown where they paint a bike lane and drivers ignore it and use it as a traffic lane because there's zero enforcement. I live right off of Napoleon and see this just about every day downtown
