Napoleon! Need to replace Maytag washer motor..anything else I should do?

Replace any belts or anything?
I heard a belt squeaking from the other end of the house but by the time I got to the washer all I could smell was burnt metal.
If I gotta take it apart to put a new motor in it anyway, anything else I should look for? It is 30+ years old.

Are you sure it's the motor?? On Maytags when the belt locks up usually it's the water pump. Take the belt off and see if the water pump spins freely.
I would 100% replace the belt, it's like $10.
I think you use the belt driven pump that is mounted in the back corner on that one. It's an expensive pump. (like $60 - wholesale)
pretty much every time I come across a Maytag not spinning something has the pump locked up.
if it was the motor you wouldn't get a burning smell as there would be nothing moving the belt or moving against the belt to create the burning smell.

very classy, that's a 1984 washing machine and it will out last anything bought today. I bet that machine will make it another 25 years no problem. Only tub or tranny failure would be reason to replace.

no.
i did notice a couple times i would find the cycle hadn't finished in the past and the washer would be half full of water. setting it to spin cycle would usually fix that.
when this happened, i can't get it to do anything. turning the dial has no effect.
i'll definitely start with the belt and try to see if the water pump will spin first.
eta with a pump that expensive, maybe i should just pick up a similar model on cragislist for $50 and take the one of it.

there are three different belt driven pumps that Maytags use.
Are you the guy who hates Amazon? I can't recall, it's only $20 on Amazon.
To be honest, if you want long life from the unit and expect it to last I would go with a new pump rather than a used.
Though if you really want to save money and the pump is locked up, take it off and see if there are any foreign objects in it. Maybe you can free it's impeller. This repair commonly costs around $155-190 so you are coming out ahead anyway with a new pump and belt. The pump should move freely in either direction with no grinding or hard turns.
If it does not, then that is your problem. If your pump turns fine, run the motor with the belt off in agitate and spin. If it runs and the pump spins freely then you have the worst problem of all, a bad transmission. Now those rarely fail of maytags, so I am still thinking it's going to be the pump.
