There needs to be another road connecting Lafayette to Baton Rouge/Nola.
Couple of viable ideas BESIDES widening I-10:
1. Complete I-49 from Lafayette to Nola.
2. 190 upgrade/rerouting to make it a 'bypass'(fewer lights and NO Krotz Springs frickery. Route around those small towns).

This is dumb.
The speed limit is the speed limit. If 9 people are driving 90 mph and rear end someone doing 70 and cause a pile up that kills someone, how the frick is it the fault of the guy that's not breaking the law?

Seems like the basin bridge is the perfect location and proper application for speed cameras that can capture speeders 24 hours a day. Put them every 1/2 mile.

it’s ridiculous to think you can ban trucks. However, it could be cost effective in some cases to throw some $$ at building up the rail infrastructure to relieve congestion.

You ok with a drone flying a 2200lb supersack of industrial ash over your house to make a delivery to their customer, who likely doesn't have a rail spur?
How about running a dozen tracks east-west and another dozen north-south to make sure trains can get within drone distance of every business and industry in baton rouge that currently depends on truck driven goods?
How about closing the gates on Essen twice an hour every hour so a half-miler train can roll through?

I'd imagine that if there was a highway lobby, and it was that powerful, they'd have pushed money towards being able to avoid the clusterfrick that south Louisiana is in order to get goods from coast to coast.
I can promise you that no truck driver wants to drive through that shithole.

Would it be cheaper to do that, or to 3 lane I-10 from Lafayette to Baton Rouge?
The basin is a pain in the arse right now, and keeping trucks in the right lane wouldn't fix it.

Bottle up all 18 wheelers in the right lane, all tailgating each other, restricting visibility and we are surprised when stopped traffic results into a 5 rig pile up?
I’m not saying elimination of the right lane rule would fix or prevent this from happening but let’s not ignore the obvious.

Except when they malfunction (and they will malfunction) and kill a family on their way to King's Dominion or some shite, the country will lose its collective shite.
ETA - people might confuse this statement with me not wanting automated vehicles. Au contraire mon frère. If they crash at lower rates than trucks, I am all for it.
