I'm with you, if this "teacher" would quit banging students long enough to actually teach, then she would realize that there's more important things to grade than spelling.

Spelling corrections are a crutch for shitty teachers.

People need to learn how to spell. When I taught college classes, I was appalled at how poorly some of the students spelled.

Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, F Scott Fitzgerald, and others all did just fine without being good spellers. Spelling is the least important writing/English skill.

, I don't blame the teacher for counting off points
for the 8th time, nobody has said she shouldn't count off anything. The question is whether 10pts a word is too much.

No way to know that without seeing the other 80 words.

I'm certain this teacher won't bang any students; however, I am concerned about the principal. She is very attractive and loves to show off her body and legs. She frequently walks around during football practice is skimpy shorts. And I mean very short shorts.

Oh, good. Mr. (or Mrs., I suspect...) English major and professor spelled his name correctly this time.

But I suppose unnecessarily adding letters to words is just the informal way of spelling.

Maybe the teacher has it out for your son because she realizes how big of a jackass his dad is

So the principle is a whore and you're kid's teacher is too worried about spelling to actually teach. Have you considered filling a lawsuit or at least switching schools? This doesn't sound like a good place for a developing mind.

that would be very unprofessional of her, not to mention she couldn't have possibly known I'm a jackass during the first 3 days of school. Is she also punishing the other students bc I'm a jackass?

I would like to add to this that Einstein and Faraday both struggled with math and they were huge contributors to science. Just in case anyone was going to suggest that math was somehow important.

Maybe give it a little time to really see how this teacher is before you throw a hissy fit on the Internet

Smart people suffer for their mistakes too.
Interesting that you dodged the question.

It was you who spelled it that way a few pages ago

OK, exiting thread. I know it's a troll job, but I have to admit that it provided some good entertainment.

Stupid people like you are easily entertained, I'm sure. Yeah, I made up all of this just for fun.

This is asinine. Just because there are calculators doesn't mean you don't need to know how to add and subtract.
I didn't say that spelling was unimportant, but taking 10 points off for each misspelled word is disproportionately weighting and penalizing spelling errors.

Now I'm assuming this was a general writing assignment, but if he took a point or two off, or as a percentage of words written, then that would be reasonable. As it was explained, as a student writes more content, he/she will have a greater chance of being penalized.

Not seeing much of a dodge there. Saying smart people suffer for their mistakes seems to acknowledge that smart people make mistakes.
