So the fish is held in point of view so to speak by the barrier of the water surface as man is held in point of view by the atmosphere of the earth. At least until the advent of rockets. Basically the flat earth vs round earth debate really could be seen as "unsettled" until our point of view expanded past our barrier of the atmosphere. We could "see the boat" i.e. stars and other celestial bodies above us, but we really couldn't give an accurate description of them. Yes scientist and mathematicians could "prove" the earth was round, but really that was just on paper, because our point of view was limited to earth only. So yes the UFOs are the boats to us, and we are ever more like the fish in that the fish have no inkling of what is beyond the atmosphere, because they are held in POV by the water surface as we have no inkling of what is beyond our universe because we are held in POV. however things are changing for us in a way that they do not change for fish, like I mentioned earlier we have rockets and have begun to explore beyond our base POV.

ETA: When flying fish leap out of the water and view above the surface and comes back down into the water and tells the other fish that there is more to that rectangle you see above you, do the other fish tell him it didn't happen and the universe above the water is not like he says it is? similar to the man on the moon conspiracy nuts.

This can all be explained by the Fermi Paradox and The Great Filter.

If you asked a deep sea fish who never surfaces to hypothetically draw a picture of a boat.... the fish would likely draw a 2 dimensional version of what it perceives from below water

1. Where am I going to find a deep sea fish that speaks English?

2. How the frick is he going to draw anything when he can't hold a pencil?

first thing i thought of, too. sometimes when i get bored, i like to go back and refresh my memory and just think about all the hypotheses.

https://waitbutwhy.com/2014/05/fermi-paradox.html

the one that's always stood out and made the most "sense" to me is similar to the OP and some of the previous discussion:
quote:

Possibility 9)
Higher civilizations are here, all around us. But we’re too primitive to perceive them. Michio Kaku sums it up like this:

Let’s say we have an anthill in the middle of the forest. And right next to the anthill, they’re building a ten-lane super-highway. And the question is “Would the ants be able to understand what a ten-lane super-highway is? Would the ants be able to understand the technology and the intentions of the beings building the highway next to them?”

So it’s not that we can’t pick up the signals from Planet X using our technology, it’s that we can’t even comprehend what the beings from Planet X are or what they’re trying to do. It’s so beyond us that even if they really wanted to enlighten us, it would be like trying to teach ants about the internet.

Along those lines, this may also be an answer to “Well if there are so many fancy Type III Civilizations, why haven’t they contacted us yet?” To answer that, let’s ask ourselves—when Pizarro made his way into Peru, did he stop for a while at an anthill to try to communicate? Was he magnanimous, trying to help the ants in the anthill? Did he become hostile and slow his original mission down in order to smash the anthill apart? Or was the anthill of complete and utter and eternal irrelevance to Pizarro? That might be our situation here.

As many are starting to contemplate, we are currently in a simulation that was created roughly 25-50 years into the future. All of my friends and family are just illusions based on my memories and (future) reverse engineering of their brain/personality. All of the other stuff going on in the world has technically already happened and has been programmed into the simulation.

While I could choose to leave these illusions behind for a life of self satisfaction (hookers and blow) since I'm the only 'real' existence in this simulation, I get more self satisfaction out of 're-living' moments with these lovable illusions.

*There are a lot of things that I sorta believe in, even if it's only 10% or less probability like the above.
