They play 6-7 every Wednesday. Warren Hood got some award for best string player (he plays the fiddle) in Austin last year. It gets packed when they play so parking can be a bitch, but you can park next door or across the street.

Warren and his band are great. I love everything about ABGB. Great beer, good food, good music.

Threadgills has some good bands too.

One of my favorite places to hit is Donn's Depot on friday nights. Donn has his country band playing and the place is full of old geezers two stepping....often with young, college girls.

Yeah, I forgot to mention Threadgill's.
Never been to Donn's. I need to check it out.

Yea abgb is a cool spot... I am pretty good friends with his cousin who plays guitar in his band. Donn's is a cool place too. Threadgills gets a little too crowded for me sometimes.

Parking is always a bitch at ABGB.

Continental Club

Used to be able to catch James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards every Wednesday night.

Best $7 cover I'll ever spend.

Ryan Bingham would open for him sometimes about 8-9 years ago. Imagine seeing that for just $7.

I forgot the name of the guitarist I mentioned at Craft Pride. His singer was a big black woman with a high top fade who could wail. She was very good. He, I would pay cover to watch him warm up. Cover was only $5. I would have paid the $5 just for the beer choice, so it was essentially free.

6th street was disappointing. Just either a. Old dude playing 70's cheese poorly on an acoustic. Or b. Young dude playing acoustic "Red Dirt" or bro country music. And it is dirty. If you are over 30 I see no point in going to 6th. Unless wanting to wow college girls with your actual grown up money. Or in my case I wanted to hit all bars that ever threw me out when I was underage. Maggie Mae's was the only one still there. We couldn't even get a waitress to serve us.

I just YouTube both of these guys mentioned. And while the McMurty fella seems like he could really pick a guitar, there isn't any way I'd want to pay $7 to listen to them sing those shitty lyrics in that shitty mood that type of music is played in....
