It makes most sense to live in Midland/Odessa if you want to be centralized.
Nothing work wise goes on around Abilene and Lubbock.
San Angelo is on the wrong side of the basin also.
Just don't plan on meeting any girls out here.

Went to school in San Angelo. It's not a bad college town.

Midland / Odessa when it's booming is literally a 'boom town' environment. Every chain in the US comes there and opens up so you have damn near anything you'd want in a larger city.
But when the oilfield dies, so does Midland Odessa. And you're back living in a ghost town full of criminals.
Great place to fly into for business when it's booming. But I wouldn't want to live there.

My favorite restaurant in midland is Garlic Press
Bar scene at The Hemingway is pretty good but it closes at 10:30
Area over by the new football stadium is nice

Its close to New Mexico
My wife went to high school in Odessa.
Dad was oil field worker.
I try now and then to get her to move back.
We could stay with her mom while we found something.
She looks at me funny.
I have to sell this place before the next forest fire.
I have a high tolerance for nothing places.
