Those horses are bad arse. It's amazing to see them in the middle of huge crowds are near a parade with bands and sirens and stuff and nothing bothers them.
I was on a balcony at the Royal Sonesta one year during a mardi gras weekend and some punk tried to start a fight on Bourbon. Mounted cop comes trotting up, grabs the guy by the collar of his shirt and proceeds to drag him through the crowd. He "accidentally" hit him on a pole in the process.

Long story but I once got arrested by a mounted officer in Macon, GA. Those fricking horses don’t play. fricker had me pinned up against a wall.

Chumps like him are the reason I can't wear camouflage pants in the club anymore. And I upvoted the slow horse comment. Also, how many rearview mirrors were taken out in those pinch points? Easily $300 worth of damage to those trucks.

An NOPD horse used to go all the way in to the old absinthe house bar, get a coke, and back out. Freaked me out when I saw that sitting at the bar.

Houston had 269 murders last year with a population of 2.31 million.
New Orleans has 157 murders last year with a population of 393 thousand.
That means using the rate of murder in New Orleans, if New Orleans had a population of 2.31 million like Houston does, it would have 923 murders.
Or flip it the other way... if Houston was the size of New Orleans, using Houston’s murder rate, Houston would have only about 46 murders.

right?!? It’s the most visited city in the world.
Most of Uptown and Mid-City have completely transformed since Katrina. Some of gentilly is on the rise, Lakeview is Lakeview.
Houses a block off Magnolia and Valence that were once murder blocks, 10 years ago, have houses up today for 450k-600k
The neighborhoods are filling up with decent people and are becoming safer.
Most of the crime is committed by the same trash, on other trash, with the occasional crime against a tourist or decent local. Nothing more than any other large city though.
Other than that, the festivals, events, food, diversity, Saints, Pelicans make it a wonderful city. Close minded people disagree, but it doesn’t stop the millions who enjoy it, each year.
