I almost saw a biker get killed or maimed on my way home today due to his own recklessness. Guy was swerving in and out of traffic and got behind an old beat up truck in the left lane. Guy in the truck starts getting over to let the douchbag by and at the same time douchbag tries to get over in the right lane as well to pass. Instead of hitting his brake and getting back in the left lane, the biker tried to pass the truck on the right after the truck was already fully in the right lane. The bike caught the curb and almost sent the rider on the pavement and dangerously close to the truck. He somehow managed to keep it under control and passed the truck on the right before quickly turning off.
When his tire caught the curb I thought I was about to witness someone die.

Those whips look awfully dangerous to try and use at 70 mph... I'd prefer to just reach in my pocket and (whip) out my .380...
Safer that way.

Safer that way.

So there’s actually a tier of motorists who are considered lower on the social ladder than bikers, and it’s the bikers who ride around with whips?

I gave up trying to figure out the biker hierarchy. You have the "full patched", the "not Patched", the "half patched", the 1 %, the people that look like the 1 percent, but are not the 1%, the people that try hard to look like the 1 %, but take offense if you compare them to the 1 percent, its enough to make the average persons head spin.

No. Their usually made of braided leather with metal tipped tassels or a steel ball bearing on the end.

No. Having or not having a whip has nothing to do with any “tier” system. I wore a three piece patch for years and never once considered putting a whip on my bike. Some guys get them, others don’t. It’s a matter of personal preference.

So what are they for?
To be honest, just for looks. Like I said earlier in this thread, to me they’re the truck nuts of the motorcycle world. I don’t really see the point in having one.

I ride more miles per year than anyone I know, that being said if I was in my truck and some jackwagon slapped it with one of his pom-pom tassles it would be just a minor bump in the road for me and much more serious for him.
