Erica Gomez, 17, faces a charge of capital murder after authorities found her infant daughter dead with multiple stab wounds, authorities said.

According to court documents, Gomez gave birth on Feb. 9 in the bathroom of a home on Frankie Lane, wrapped the baby in a bathrobe and took her to a shed about 30 yards from the home.

The teen then fell asleep in her bedroom, and when her mother noticed she was bleeding, she took her to a hospital, according to court documents.

Medical staff then determined that Gomez had had a miscarriage, court documents said.

According to court documents, the newborn was found about 12 hours after she had been placed in the shed.

The El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the infant received nine stab wounds throughout her body, and the infant’s cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence, according to court documents.

Gomez is charged with capital murder. She was booked into the county jail on an $800,000 bond.

A spokesperson with the Socorro Independent School District said Gomez was a student at El Dorado High School.
