500 miles a year? You are throwing money away buying a new vehicle for that.
Throwing money away anytime you buy a new vehicle. In Alaska you need something dependable though. I’d also do more road trips if I had something more dependable. Would love to get on the road and explore more of Alaska and Canada over the next couple of years. I also expect the next 3-5 years will be the end of vehicles as we know it. Hopefully if I get one now it will be the last one I ever buy (really looking to purchase next year).

For cheap light truck use the Maverick isn't bad at all. It's cheap and decently made.
Where are you finding a maverick for cheap? The markups on those are outrageous.

Ford Maverick. My friend just got a Santa Cruz but they are a little bit more.

Go to the ford forums and find a dealer that’s not marking up. They get shout outs in all the forums.
Like for example, mullinax ford in mobile or long-Lewis n Hoover.

Those are minivan's with a bed on them.

If you can find a decent deal on a used 4runner, other than that, I'd continue to roll with the X.

Anyone know if they’re taking orders for the 2023 Maverick yet?

Yes they started in July I believe.

I pay insurance plus about 70 a month to keep it at the airport. Problem with renting is that during the summer it’s hard to find rental cars available.
Just fix your old Xterra. Get a new radiator, have the transmission and axles flushed, and have them check the air conditioning and electrical stuff.

Man I’d kill to have my 07 Xterra back
Wish they wouldn’t have stopped making the X

Yeah that is still a Ford Escape with a bed. And that's fine if that is all you need. There's nothing else that size out right now, so it's going to be popular for at least a year or two.
But it's not an off road rig or an actual truck. Seeing a low clearance uni-body pickup with an FX4 badge and all terrain tires isn't helping the case. It just looks like a poser vehicle with that on it.
It's a cute little pickup, and it's a damn good value if you can find the base model. But it's not a truck even if it identifies as one.

I mean it’s perfect for what most people need.
Or you can buy an suv that looks like all the other suvs.
And what’s an off-road vehicle? You taking your $48k wrangler or $60k bronco to roll over and get crushed?
It’s awd and kicks arse in the snow. Which is another reason people get them.
