Not sure where you got that, or how it relates to what I posted but this, below, is from my link.

Now that the Army Corps of Engineers has announced officially that the Morganza Spillway will open this weekend here’s what you can expect.
In short the Mississippi is so high that to guarantee the integrity of the ORCS the water has be diverted into the Atchafalaya Basin, the natural Mississippi spillway.
The Spillway gates will be opened slowly on June 2nd, this will prevent a rush of water from crashing down, and the slow release gives wildlife a chance to clear out and the water to move south in a controlled manner.

That was from the Tulsa Corps of Engineers district. All that is in the Arkansas River watershed.

Aww shite. That was not predicted before now.
ETA: actually, looking at the radar and it doesn’t appear to be torrential rainfall over a widespread area. And it looks like it’s moving.

It was. That's an excessive rainfall for today. Which happened in parts of that area today. Nothing unexpected and is already built into the river predictions.

The barge is in place and ballasted down in the Chene. Here's hoping the Stephensville/Pierre Part area doesn't get a big rainfall event in the next couple months - going to be tough to drain.

Huh, I didn't realize the excessive rainfall for that area was already forecast. Good to know that more water than they predicted isn't coming down.
What's your thinking this morning on the whole situation? Still about the same? Do you think they will need to eventually open more bays at some point?

Is Mmiddleton Library safe?

There's going to be a short break in the rain for the Arkansas, but they'll get more next week. Just shouldn't be the day after day train of very heavy rain. The Red might get some additional too next week, as they get tucked under a building high pressure over the high plains.
So it's not exactly what we'd want but next week should be a more manageable amount of rain, so it should start dropping by late in June imo.
Don't know about # of bays, that's for the hydrology baws.

Here's the link to the USACE New Orleans District page. Not a whole lot of specifics up, but it gives an overview of the spillway and shows what they did in 2011 for reference. TDs, may be useful to post this in your OP?

How does sinking a barge in Bayou Chene prevent backwater flooding?
Couldn't the water just flow around the barge, over the marsh and into the channel

Posted on 5/30/19 at 12:12 pm to ike221
