A request for proposals for outside assistance for trash and debris removal in the city of Monroe passed Tuesday night.

However, council approval was not formally established until Wednesday afternoon following a review of the city charter, the city council Rules of Procedure and Robert's Rules of Order.

..

With passage, a request for proposals will be issued featuring specific criteria for assistance with trash and debris removal in the city while a long-term plan for debris is formulated.

The council talked trash for approximately one hour before the vote, including the terms of the RFP, if layoffs of employees would occur because of the outside help and how trash pickup became such a large problem in the city.

Getting rid of all the trash in Monroe would render it a ghost town.

Only time I ever smelled the landfill is when I was actually there.

Imagine living here?

I can. Cause I do.

Years back in the early 90's WM attempted to move lead contaminated something or other (forgot what it was but had to do with Waste Management) out to the landfill back towards Russell Sage. A group of citizens heavily protested and stopped it from happening.

My mom was one of the leaders of that true community organization. She said WM had goons showing up to meetings and attempting to scare politicians and Lawyers (Paul Hurd and Ben Marshall) to relent. Even Dave Norris.

No telling what kind of shite they have dumped out there over the years since. I was 8 when it happened back when.

That episode occurred right about the time they banned lead shot in the Russel Sage WMA.

Monroe can’t even take out their own trash because the trucks are broken down.

Hey guys, where should we put this huge gross smelly landfill?

I know, how about right next to the interstate where every single person that drives past our town can see and smell how trashy we are here. You want that landfill to be seen and smelled as much as possible.

Not all of us live in a "utopia" where the trash magically disappears each week
