Here's the thing: they are talking out of both sides of their mouths. They want us to suspend our disbelief while at the same time they poke fun at how fake/staged/choreographed/however you want to describe it it is themselves. It's insulting your own audience. You want to have a scripted wrasslin show? Fine. Now go and own it. Don't act embarrassed of it.
In the middle of Game of thrones or even Archer (shoutout to ya gurl), Archer doesn't look at the camera and say "of course this is ridiculous and there is no such thing as robotic Eastern European fembots that can have sexual relations with you". But WWE Does it all the time and the ratings have been in a continuous downward cycle for a very long time in part bc of it
Sorry if that was disjointed and confusing, I have a heart time articulating it. Anyways /rant
